TEAM –CD User Guide
The input for the working of TEAM-CD is provided in three ways:
Fixed parameters which cannot be changed by the end user:
Following technical parameters have been fixed by the app developers on the basis of consultations with subject matter specialists, extensive review of the literature in Indian context and field observations. These default parameters cannot be changed by the end user as most of the prospective entrepreneurs are unlikely to have knowledge about them.
However, in case any entrepreneur is interested to generate a project report based on any one of more values other than given in default, a mail to this effect can be send to email@example.com customised report will be made available on the registered email id within 2 working days. The parameters taken here are for crossbred cows but the app can be easily customised to accommodate parameters relevant for buffaloes or indigenous cows and hence generate bankable project reports for commercial buffalo or indigenous cattle farm.

For several parameters like prices, cost, quantity of feed and fodder to be fed, workers to be employed, etc. the values are given based on the recent economic situation and/or scientific management practices. The purpose is to assist the entrepreneur in making informed decisions but all these values can be easily changed by the end-user as per the prevailing situation in area where the farm is located or proposed.
User keyed-in parameters:
The information on the profile of the entrepreneur, the size of the unit, that is the number of adult animals to start the farm, machinery and equipment required, margin money contribution, etc. has to be provided by the user depending on his requirement.
Sign-up and Login:
The user has to sign-up for using TEAM-CD. The sign-up screen asks for general information about the entrepreneur. The email id provided here is the login username. Once an account is created with TEAM-CD, the user can sign-in with the username and password on the login screen.
Input Modules :
1. Basic information about the Project:
Simple information on the unit size (number of adult cows to begin the project), cost of animals, average milk production and sale price of milk is required to be provided by the user.
The unit size can range from 10 to 500 animals.
Suggestive values of the parameterslike cost of animals, average milk production and sale price of milk are already given.Users canchange these values according to their requirement.
In case of type of scheme, there are two types of schemes. Out of these two schemes farmer has to select either one.
Bottom of the module is provided with next button which will take the user to next module.
2. Cattle Shed Dimensions and Costs:
The cattle shed dimensions dimension are based as per two standards/practices: the standards as laid out by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) standards and prevalent practices in the commercial dairy farms. The space requirement as prescribed by the BIS is slightly larger than what the farmers are usually adopting.
Entrepreneur can choose any option according to his requirement.
The breadth and height of the shed does change with the herd size, but the length, and hence, total area depends on the number of animals that to be reared.
All the parameters of the shed are admin defined. To change these parameters, entrepreneur has to send message to administrator e-mail.
Construction rate (Rs./sq.ft) displayed on the screen as default, can be changed by the user as per the cost per square foot in the project location.
The cost of construction of animal shed and other civil structures on the farm (as 30% of the shed construction cost) is computed in the app.
3. Machinery and Equipment Requirement and Costs:
Input module on machinery and equipmentprovides listing for selection of different types of machinery and equipment required on dairy farm. Three levels of automation have been considered; fully-automated, semi-automated and manual. The module calculates the total machinery cost.
On selecting the fully-automated or semi-automated option, equipment has to be selected from the list of equipmentthat will appear on the drop down menu of "Equipment name".
Indicative price of the selected equipment is already filled, but there is a provision of giving user defined prices.
Click on Save button and selected equipment will be saved in the list.
One by one select and save different machinery/equipments required on the farm from the list.
For the manually operated equipment, fill in the total cost of all the manual equipment together.
The cost of all selected machines will be added up and appear in the top row as total cost.
4. Feed and Fodder Requirement and Costs:
Feed and fodder is the majorinput required in milk production. Feed and fodder availability varies from the season to season. The app provides for three seasons (summer, rainy and winter) of about 4 months each. There is provision for accounting for price rise in feed fodder during the project period.
User has to enter the daily quantity and prices of dry fodder, green fodder, concentrates and supplements for an adult animal in each season.
Select the season and the type of feed/fodder one by one, enter its quantity and prices and save.
User will be able to go to next module only when all the required information is completed for all seasons and all feed fodder types.
In case any type of feed is not used, enter the value 0.
Suggested values of quantity and prices and rate of increase in prices can be changed by the user.
5. Manpower Requirement and Cost:
The manpower requirement of a farm is based on the level of automation and is inversely related to the increasing automation. There is build-in provision of economies of scale in manpower employment
On selecting the level of farm automation, contractual labour and managerial requirement are suggested but changes can be made by the user.
Similarly suggested wages can be changed.
6. Other Costs and Prices:
The user is required to input the cost of miscellaneous items such as expenditure on breeding, veterinary health care, electricity, water, repair and maintenance expenses, land rent, insurance premium, etc., sale prices of farm output, annual rate of increase in these costs and prices.
Miscellaneous costs (other than land rent and insurance premium) have been taken together on per animal basis.
Insurance premium is included explicitly.
Sale price of milk, dung, calves, heifers, adult cows and cull cows is suggested and can be customised as per the prevailing prices in the region where dairy farm is/will be located.
Output Modules :
After completing the input modules, following output modules are auto generated by the app:
Herd Projections: Theprojected size of the animal herd for the 5 year period is based giving due consideration to the mortality rate, culling rate, pregnancy rate, calving rate, inter-calving period, herd replacement rate and other relevant technical parameters.
Feed and Fodder Cost Projections: Year wise seasonal and annual l cost estimates of feed and fodder are displayed on the screen taking due account of the input price rise over the time period.
Manpower Cost Projections: Year wise expenditure on contractual labour and managerial staff is computed.
Other Costs Projections: Next screen gives the annual cost projections of miscellaneous expenses, insurance premium and total of these including land rent paid (if any) on early basis foe a period of five years.
Operational Cost Projections: The sum of above three cost projections are displayed in this module.
Total Project Cost: In working out the total project cost for assessing the financial requirement to set-up the farm, the sum of total capital cost and recurring cost of one month in year 1 has been considered.
Milk Production Projections: Year wise projections of total milk produced and available for sale over the project period take into account the annual increase in productivity of animals and the change in the herd strength.
Sale Proceeds Projections: Sale proceeds include revenue generated from the sale of milk, animals and dung. Increase in prices of milk and animal and change in herd size has been duly considered.
Financial Analysis: The profitability and financial viability of the project is detailed out. Financial analysis of the project is done using the standard capital budgeting techniques. Summary measures of Net Present Value and Benefit Cost ratio are worked out at 12 and 15% discount rate. Also the Internal Rate of Return is computed.
Loan Repayment Schedule: The loan repayment schedule for 5 year period is based on proportion of loan requirement towards the total project cost (viz. summation of the total capital cost and recurring cost for one month). Debt service coverage ratio is also worked out as a decision tool for the entrepreneur.
